Crystal Nevada Thornton is an Award winning, veteran television news anchor and radio personality with more than 20 years’ of demonstrated newsroom leadership experience is a native of Topeka, Kansas and is a direct descendant of “Brown vs. The Board of Education" Plaintiffs in the landmark case. She received the National Award for Leadership from the Brown Foundation in commemoration of its 20th anniversary. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunications and Film from Eastern Michigan University and was honored by EMU with the prestigious Alumni Achievement Award. She studied studio and film production at the Disney MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida and began her television career as a news anchor in Eastern North Carolina.
Crystal’s extensive career in television has moved her from coast to coast for more than a decade. After taking a hiatus to become a mom, she returned to the Pacific Northwest to share her talents on 104.1 The Fish - Portland. There is no mistaking her voice as she loves on you, weekday mornings from 6 to 10, and Sunday afternoons from noon to 6pm. When she’s not encouraging you, she’s leading by example through her volunteer service. She is the Public Relations Chair and Executive Board Member for the Cascade Division of the Salvation Army, and an active member of the Portland chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Crystal has served as the primary Co-Anchor for WGHP-TV FOX 8 in High Point, NC, KDAF-TV in Dallas, Texas where she was one of the original anchors to launch WB33 news at nine. She also produced and hosted the station’s Emmy nominated Community Affairs program “DFW Close Up.” Crystal also worked as a Primary News Anchor in Portland, Oregon at KOIN TV, KIII TV in Corpus Christi, Texas and WITN 7 in Eastern North Carolina.
In addition to her on air talents, Crystal is an accomplished recording artist who has worked with some of gospel music’s greats. Her first solo project was self-titled; Crystal Thornton “A Little Lower than the Angels”. She is currently working on another album to be released later this year. Her performances have been broadcast internationally through The Trinity Broadcast Network (TBN) and Total Christian Television (TCT) and she was honored with a “Women of Faith Award.”
Crystal is married to retired USMC Lt. Col. Ronald Stephen Thornton, Jr. Ronald who is currently a commercial airline pilot. They have a son Ronald “Rock” S. Thornton, III and a standard poodle named “Jett.”
